For our second Rwandan coffee of the year we bring you the ‘Bingo’ from the Nyamasheke district, Western province.
THE NYAKABINGO COFFEE WASHING STATION (CWS)
The Bingo has been named after the Nyakabingo coffee washing station (CWS) from where it was processed. The Nyakabingo CWS is responsible for sorting coffees from 329 small holder farmers in Rwanda. As well being sourced from quality farms sitting over 1700 masl, the CWS is largely responsible for the quality of coffee that makes it to us. Known for its high quality of service, only the finest coffee cherries are plucked and sorted by dedicated well trained teams.
SPECIAL MENTION TO RWACOF
RWACOF are the owners of the Nyakabingo CWS who are responsible for operating 19 of Rwanda’s 300 coffee washing stations. Their investment into Rwandas coffee industry has been huge. From building coffee stations, training farmers and instilling quality practices whilst improving the overall sustainability of the industry. They have been pivotal in creating a great coffee economy in Rwanda and above all else, they produce amazing coffee like the Bingo.
Can you taste it?
Naturally processed the coffee cherries are dried on raised beds for a coffee with fruity funk. This has resulted in an extraordinarily sweet, bright and fruity coffee. The Bingo showcases tasting notes of black tea, Cranberry and brown sugar. Bittersweet until the very end.
Our recommendation
African coffees and naturally processed are known for their brightness and extremely fruity nature. As a result, we give preference to filter or as long black for espresso based drinks.
We recommend consuming this coffee between weeks 2 to 4 after its roast date, but of course, try it before or after too.
